Evangelism—It’s What We Do
Few things define a Campus Crusade movement like evangelism. This has been distinctive of our ministry since 1951 and it would not be an overstatement to say that reaching people for Christ is why we exist. As we give a lot of time to evangelism we’ve given a lot of thought to it which is why you’ll find this resource section packed pretty tight. It might be helpful to think of our Reach resources in the following categories.
Communicate the Gospel Clearly
As an evangelistic ministry we need to be experts in communicating the gospel message. We should be able to explain the gospel clearly, ask good questions, and be able to transition a conversation easily to gospel content.
We should be able to communicate the gospel through our testimony, through a booklet (both Knowing God Personallyand Life@large) or through a single verse. We should have expertise in what we do.
Teach Evangelism
Evangelism is difficult and without strong biblical teaching, theological training and Spirit-Filled reliance, people will simply avoid doing it. Not only do we need to model effective evangelism we need to teach evangelism effectively.
Equip others to do Evangelism
CoJourners is the Campus Ministry’s model for equipping every student to communicate their faith effectively. Several resources undergird the CoJourners model: a daily devotional, a self-study article, teaching notes, and small group training.
Outreach Strategies
The responsibility of an evangelistic ministry is to be strategic in its outreach efforts to unbelievers. A comprehensive collection of strategies is found in The 250. Some proven strategies include:
Exposure Strategies
Strategies that broadly expose the entire campus community to gospel content are typically called “exposure strategies.” A comprehensive list of exposure strategies is found in The 250. Some proven exposure strategies include:
Evangelism Online
Perhaps the most effective evangelistic strategy of the last decade has been digital. The website EveryStudent.com has seen thousands of people come to Christ. Here’s where you can learn how to use of the EveryStudent strategy.
Apologetics
In sharing Christ on campus we often run into intellectual barriers and questions. We don’t need to be able to answer every question but we should be growing in our proficiency and we should be able to point people to the right resource for their questions. Crusade apologetic resources include:
- EveryStudent.com (web/article resources)
- Jesus Without Religion and other FSK books (book resources)
- Y-Jesus, Y-Origins (magazine resources)
